Oil has been used to cleanse & hydrate the skin for thousands of years, the ancients knew it, especially the Greeks & Romans.
The ancient Greeks were known to wash without soap. They preferred to wash with water, clay, pumice, sands or ashes and then to anoint themselves with oil.
Soap was always traditionally made with oils, clay, or animal fats, today, soaps and facial cleansers are much stronger detergents, full of chemicals and alcohol, often ridding the skin of its natural sebum. When we use harsh cleansers on our skin we actually end up drying the skin out and messing with the natural PH of the skin.
Many oils are naturally antimicrobial & cleanse the face from dirt and debris.
Acne and breakouts are most often diet related, hormone related combined with a PH skin imbalance with really dry skin!
It feels counter intuitive to add oil when you have acne and oily skin… but let me explain why its not and how it works wonders at healing your skin.
Often when we have oily skin, actually we have really really dry skin. So what the body is doing is producing excess oil to hydrate and nourish the skin. The dryer the skin, the more oil it pumps out. So we end up with really oily outer skin.
When we start to hydrate our skin naturally with natural botanical oils, and balance the PH, the skin finally slows down the oils it produces and stops jetting out all this excess sebum production.
Voila! dewy, glowing, clear free skin.
Add a 3-5 drops to your finger tips, apply around the eyes, temples , forehead & cheek bones.
Massage gently with fingers tips in a circular motion. Allow to soak into the skin.
Run a muslin cloth under warm water & apply to face ~ a little face steam if you will to remove any excess oil.
The heat helps the oil to penetrate deep into the skin and removes excess from sitting on the outer surface.
*You can also use this same method to remove makeup.
For a more integrated approach, apply oil drops to face before foundation for a dewy look & for enhanced hydration.
*Always BIO - Pesticide FREE.
Simmondsia chinensis Seed Oil (Jojoba), Argania spinosa Kernel Oil (Argan), Hippophae rhamnoides Oil (Seabuckthorn), Calendula officinalis (Calendula),
Centella asiatica (Gotu Kola), Matricaria chamomilla (Chamomile), Filipendula ulmaria (Meadowsweet), Equisetum arvense (Horsetail), Citrus × sinensis (Bitter orange), Rosa spp (Moroccan Rose), Citrus aurantium sinensis oil (Sweet Orange Peel), Boswellia serrata (Frankinscence).
Jojoba Seed Oil ~ Helps to gently unclog pores and cleanse the skin. It shares a similar molecular structure to sebum, the oil that the skin and scalp produces naturally, therefore moisturising without leaving residue.
Argan Kernel Oil ~ A nourishing oil that soaks into the skin easily, full of omega 6 fatty acid Linoleic acid that protects & hydrates without clogging pores . Linoleic acid is an essential building block for ceramides, one of skin's main moisturising elements. It makes the skin's barrier stronger so it can effectively keep water in and irritants out.
Seabuckthorn oil ~ Rich in omega fatty acids, vitamins, antioxidants, palmitoleic acid and carotenoids - this bright orange oil helps to clear the skin, calm redness and heal acne, as well as offering a tint of colour, a sun kissed glow.
Calendula Flowers ~ is known as a vulnerary ‘to heal wounds’, clearing any blemishes and marks on the skin aiming for that dewy baby skin look and is highly anti-inflammatory ridding redness.
Gotu Kola leaf ~ promotes the production of collagen, thus reduces scars, especially from acne and repairs visible veins on the skin. This is why Gotu Kola is often called ‘anti-ageing’ as it plumps up the skin due to being full of antioxidants to aid newly formed tissues.
Chamomile Flower ~ The powerful antioxidants in Chamomile regenerate the skin, tighten pores, soothe & reduce inflammation offering a healthy skin glow.
Meadowsweet ~ contains Salicylic acid, which soothes inflamed skin, promotes peeling and exfoliation. This aims to improve acne, sun damage, and brown skin patches known as melasma
Equisetum ~ contains Silica. Silica promotes the natural production of collagen, which is your body's most abundant protein. Studies have shown, Silica helps with sun-damaged skin, reducing rough texture and offering a smoother, softer appearance.
Rose ~ contains multiple vitamins, antioxidants, and minerals to replenish the skin. It offers astringent properties, making it a great toner, which is why rose water is traditional used to cleanse the skin. It is an excellent combatant of acne, redness, and inflammation and soothes skin symptoms of psoriasis, eczema, and dermatitis.
Sweet Orange Peel ~ To take your mind to the Mediterranean, walking past an orange tree, smelling the warm fruit glistening in the sun, lifting the spirits. Orange acts as a natural toner as slightly astringent, leaving the skin looking plumped and refreshed. It is super rich in Vitamin C which helps to reduce signs of ageing and is a natural antibacterial which supports the healing of acne and oily skin.
Frankincense ~ With powerful anti-inflammatory properties, Frankincense is an effective resin to calm the complexion. It soothes irritated and damaged skin, from sunburn, rosacea or acne breakouts, Frankincense Oil restores the epidermis and calms affected areas.
Emma Marigold is a Medical Herbalist BSc and has been studying Health for 10 years. Where West meets East, Emma practices Western Herbal Medicine, a science which originates from Ancient Greece & Ayurvedic Medicine from India.
The project began with a desire to create herbal medicine that is pleasurable & becomes part of an effortless daily routine, rather than feeling like a chore. Values which she learnt when living in India, where her own healing began, adding herbal powders into milk to create delicious tonic drinks. Learning our ancestors' wisdom, knitting that together with today science and integrating that into modern ritual. Thus, LADY apothecary was born.
The product range is continually growing and the aim is always to move away from symptom suppressing and moving towards root cause & preventative health.
