Coir is a natural fibre sourced from coconut shells and a by-product of food production that would go to waste, unless reused and recycled. These eco friendly fibres offer durable versatility and opportunities for creative design.
Welcome to our inspired coir collection! The hand crafted nature of this range makes it truly unique. Slight colour and pattern variations are exclusive characteristics, reflecting the use of traditional artisan techniques.
Hand screen printing is a highly skilled practice producing vibrant designs using a frame, stencils and pigmented colour. A highly work-intensive Indian heritage craft, whereby patterns must be allowed to dry completely before attempting the next, building a distinctive, bright fabric.
This WFTO supplier empowers hundreds of artisans to sustain their families and traditions. Every purchase uplifts these artists, preserves heritage crafts and makes a meaningful difference. Their mission is to preserve the arts and crafts of India by supporting over 800 artisans in promoting their hand crafted products around the globe. Helping producers access avenues for sustainable livelihoods is paramount in an increasingly commercial world. The organisation advocates traditional skills should be valued, respected and preserved.
The Namaste Journey
In 1995, in search of some adventure, founder Sam Brummitt flew to Kathmandu, Nepal with a round-the-world ticket. After an inspirational trek to Mount Everest base camp, followed by 6 months circumnavigating the Indian Subcontinent on re-conditioned ex Indian Army Enfield Bullets and sleeping under the stars at the side of the road, the idea for the business slowly developed. Fuelled by a conversation one day in Rajasthan with the owner of a small textile business and now lifelong friend and a key supplier, Ganpat suggested Sam came back home and started a business.
Starting a business meant earning a living while putting something back into such a beautiful and wonderful part of the world and that’s exactly what happened. Namaste, translated as ‘I greet the spirit within you’ was founded in 1997.
